Description

TBT: The Black Tower, part of the Black Cube series (ASA, Catyph...) was the prototype of a role playing game for Windows. It was inspired by old-school J-RPGs such as the famous Final Fantasy series on PS1, for the love of an era. TBT: The Black Tower was thought to feature beautiful 2.5D graphics with an intelligent use of camera mapping, a vast 3D worldmap, a serious story, and turn-based battles introducing a new system with up to 3 fighters + 3 supporters in the same arena.

History

(Update: TBT was cancelled in May 2013 after failing the Indiegogo campain - It is possible that the game comes back someday, but it will be very different) TBT Prototype has been developed with a small team of 3 motivated and talented friends, with the idea of crowdfunding our project. We were 2 French indie freelancers supported by a Belgian programmer, plus a music composer. Our team was somehow nostalgic of J-RPG games of the Sony PS1, and that's what TBT - The Prototype - is all about. Even though we worked really hard on the prototype (if you take into account the size of our team), and also on communication, it seems that we didn't succeed in convincing. We made several obvious mistakes that can explain the failure of the project, but people also focused on the resemblance with Final Fantasy VII, which didn't really help us. We found it difficult to explain that our demo was just a prototype made in 4 months from scratch, and that everything was supposed to evolve as soon as we'd be funded. We learned a lot from this lesson.

Features

  • TBT is the prototype of an indie Role Playing Game inspired by PS1 J-RPGs
  • Retro style with 2D backgrounds and 3D characters, 3D worldmap and Turn-based battles

  • Another part of the Black Cube series!

About Simon Mesnard Infographiste 3D, aka Simon Says: Watch! Play!

      Boilerplate
I develop indie games, animation films, books (and maybe more) in France. My projects are self-funded and I usually create them on my own, at home. I have founded the Icehouse collective that tries to support indie artists and developers who lack of visibility. My main game projects are adventure games, where I like to bring a cinematographic aspect through the scenario, the cameras and environments, and the addition of animated CG cutscenes. These games are based on short novels or books that I have written and that I try to bring to life. I would like to cooperate with other artists and developers who see the indie scene like me. I am opened to all ideas and collaborations related to my own projects (The Black Cube series, Mon Village est Magique, ...), or external projects that stimulate me.
